How to choose the right preschool for your child

Five clear signals to help parents tell whether a preschool truly fits their child — from the space, to the teachers, to the philosophy.

Choosing a preschool is one of the most important decisions in your child's early years. Most parents do not have weeks to evaluate every option in detail, so we want to share five core signals that quickly reveal whether a school is a good fit.

1. Your first feeling when you walk into a classroom. Is the space naturally bright and ventilated? Are the children calm and engaged, or tense? Trust that first feeling.

2. The teaching team. Ask about teacher-to-child ratios, certifications, and how often the team trains together. A stable and continuously learning team is a huge plus.

3. A clear teaching philosophy. A great school can clearly explain why they teach the way they do. Listen for substance behind the slogans.

4. Transparency. Tuition, menus, daily routines, and safety procedures should all be openly shared and explained.

5. How the school listens to parents. A school that listens and responds quickly respects your whole family — not just your child.
